At Myant, we are creating the world’s first expressive and continuous digital presence platform, enabled by integrating technology directly into clothing and augmented by other devices, wearables, and IOT. We see the evolution of society where every member gets to participate from anywhere and anytime through a whole-body experience, mostly in a passive or ambient manner to foster ubiquitous accessibility. The need for this type of connection is not new. There are many companies working on ways to connect humans in singularity with technology, however most of these technologies are based on devices that are often used in episodical ways hence, leading to poor adoption or reliability. In general, innovation and technology have delivered significant benefits for many members of society. However, there are those who are left behind, namely the very young, the marginalized, the old and the sick. The challenge of inclusion for those left behind requires us to move beyond device focused strategies, towards an interface that we use naturally, every day. We believe that textile is that primary interface, used in clothing, coverings, carpeting and more, we wear and are surrounded by textiles universally, always.

Such an interface could fuse data with other devices that we use periodically and data with other IoTs in the environment. People could then leverage their physical presence over their digital presence to communicate and share personal wellbeing. This could unlock healthcare that is proactive and preventative, social connectedness that is more profound, enable care distribution models to be seamless and on demand, better fitness insights, safer working environments and more.

The vision for SKIIN -our first consumer-facing brand- is to enhance human ability through connected clothing and textiles. Skiin is in beta-phase market launch and has been recently granted Health Canada medical device license and submitted to FDA for regulatory approval in the US market. The sensors and actuators embedded within our apparel create your Digital Identity, which will be consumed by those who matter to you - your family members, physicians, trainers, other IoT devices - without you consciously having to think about it. The line between the digital and physical world is becoming increasingly blurry and we believe textile is the next medium to bridge that gap.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Services Developer (Spring Boot/Kotlin) to serve as a technical lead within our software development team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud services that power our mobile and web applications in a medical health and research environment.

You will play a key role across the entire project lifecycle, from system architecture and backend service development to mentoring developers and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings strong backend development expertise using Kotlin/Java and the Spring Framework, along with experience building cloud-based platforms and RESTful APIs.

This role is based within mmHg, a fully remote team, and works closely with Myant’s broader technology and product groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Services & Backend Development:

Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based services and REST APIs using Spring Boot with Kotlin and Java.
Build scalable backend systems supporting mobile and web applications in healthcare and research environments.
Implement robust architectures using controller–service–repository patterns and modern backend design principles.
Ensure performance, reliability, and security of cloud-based services and APIs.

Technical Leadership:

Serve as a technical lead within a small, high-performing development team.
Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate developers, supporting their technical growth and project delivery.
Own the technical architecture and codebases for assigned projects.
Ensure engineering best practices and high-quality coding standards across the team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with project managers, UX/UI designers, product leaders, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Work directly with clients and partners to understand requirements, feature requests, and technical needs.
Provide guidance on technical approaches and system architecture decisions.

Software Quality & Development Processes:

Participate in code reviews to maintain architectural consistency and software quality.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and quality systems.
Write and maintain project documentation, including technical designs and system architecture documentation.
Communicate project status, progress, and risks clearly to stakeholders.

Project Execution:

Work across multiple software initiatives while maintaining high quality and reliability standards.
Lead technical implementation of complex features and system enhancements.
Support the delivery of secure, compliant software in a healthcare environment.

Qualifications:

5–10 years of professional experience in software development.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong programming experience with Kotlin and/or Java.
Extensive experience with the Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
Experience implementing controller–service–repository architecture patterns.
Experience working with SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQLite.
Experience using ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate).
Experience leading software projects or major project components.
Strong knowledge of HTTP, REST APIs, JSON, and cloud-based application architectures.
Experience with Git-based development workflows.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS.
Experience with frameworks and tools such as Hibernate, Jackson, and related Java ecosystem libraries.
Experience working in health technology, digital health, or regulated environments.
